The rain fell down that night
droplets piercing her face
no match for her tears.

The waiting room was cold
though it was March
and the sun was brightly shining.
Decorated like a dental office–
mismatched neutral furniture
and expired parenting magazines
fill in empty spaces
between plastic shrubbery.
I caught the eyes of women around the room
as I waited for my number to be called
I judged them
saw them judging me–
though our reasons the same.I had paid cash
