Confidence
She smiles at him
gives a look
that tells how lucky he is
to have caught her attention
she is beautiful
and will let no one tell her otherwise
her smile masks any and every insecurity
she has inside
fooling everyone–
even herself at times
with its strength and magnificence.
Dreams…Dreams
are like fairytales,
teaching
those who drift
in the dark
the lessons
they can’t seem to grasp
in the light of day.

Never in my life
have I wanted to be a princess.
I don’t wait for knights
on shiny white horses
to come and rescue me.
I won’t hold my breath
for a happily ever after
fairytales speak of.
My dreams do not include
lottery winnings
and rich uncles
just hard work, sweat and tears.
I will not settle
for someone else’s happiness
and the lack of a lover

Once upon a times,
happily ever afters,
and holding my breath
for what dreams may come
are all things let go
along with pain from my past.
Taking with them dreams
of walking down the aisle–
my dad’s arm wrapped around mine
and being the cutest damn pregnant woman ever.
Dreams of picket fences
and family pictures gone–
replaced with dreams
of hopeful faces
women needing someone to care
