What Lies Beneath

Look through her eyes,
past the sparkle
complementing her smile,
catch the specks of grey–
the fragments of her broken heart
shattered glass through which she hides
mirroring her trepidation of the moment
when someone looks deep enough
to see what lies beneath
the pale shades of blue and green
and piece by piece
helps her to mend the damage
and free her of the emotional debris
